Iconic Design Auction - Estate of Mde G & Various

“All this debate about the boundaries between art and design is irrelevant: what matters is the emotion of creation.”— Ron Arad

It is with this wonderful quote from Ron Arad that we are delighted to invite you to our next exceptional auction, organised around the dispersal of a major Luxembourg estate. This autumn event is sure to appeal to even the most discerning collectors thanks to a carefully curated selection of works of art and designer furniture created by some of the world’s leading designers. But don’t worry if you’re not a design aficionado, as we’ll round off this wonderful day with fine watchmaking, jewellery and luxury leather goods.

Modern & Contemporary Art

The auction will open with a remarkable selection of lithographs by Pierre Alechinsky, Geneviève Claisse, Roy Lichtenstein and Salvador Dalí.

We shall continue with a fine collection of works by Luxembourgish artists (Kohner, Mangen, Bertemes, Schortgen), highlighted in particular by an exceptional 2-metre-high oil on canvas by Robert Brandy (Lot 39).

This sale will also showcase several major figures from the 20th and 21st centuries:

Bengt Lindström: an acrylic on canvas with captivating shapes and colours.

JonOne (Lot 51): an abstract composition from 2010 featuring gold leaf, sold with its certificate of authenticity.

Didier Triglia: ‘NANYUKI’ (2013), a painting featuring fantastical shapes and figures, very characteristic of the artist.

Foncky Two: ‘Adam and Eve’, a bronze sculpture featuring an apple, signed on the base.

Iconic 20th-Century Design
Lovers of modern design will be delighted by iconic pieces from leading designers:

Ron Arad (Lots 99 & 100): a rare ‘Bookworm Shelf’ from 1995, the star lot of this sale, accompanied by his ‘Well Tempered Chair’ created in 1986.

Jorge Zalszupin (Lot 146): the legendary ‘Pétalas’ coffee table, still bearing its original ‘L’Atelier Móveis S.A.’ label beneath the top.

Pierre Paulin (Lot 139): the incredible and iconic ‘Ribbon Chair’ (1966), presented in its original ‘Momentum’ fabric upholstery by Jack Lenor Larsen.

Hans Wegner (Lots 102 & 103): a rare set of six ‘China Chair’ chairs (Lot 102), accompanied by its matching table (Lot 103).

Jean Prouvé: a rare circular coffee table in natural solid oak.

Garouste & Bonetti: a chair and a floor lamp from the iconic ‘Barbare’ collection (Néotu Edition, 1981), both monogrammed with the ‘BG’ stamp.

The catalogue also features:

A sofa by Vico Magistretti

A ‘Gilda’ floor lamp by Enrico Franzolini

Wall lights by Louis Poulsen

Chairs by D. Kelly, W. Katavolos & R. Little

An iconic armchair by Marc Sadler

Stools by Charlotte Perriand

The inimitable ‘Egg Chair’ by Arne Jacobsen

Pop Art & Street Art

A superb collection of lithographs and screen prints by icons of Pop Art and Street Art will enrich this auction, including works by Banksy, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Yayoi Kusama and Damien Hirst.

Fine Watchmaking, Jewellery & Leather Goods

As the day draws to a close, fine watchmaking and jewellery will take centre stage with some exceptional pieces. Take, for example, this magnificent Patek Philippe Aquanaut men’s watch in steel. Or this Cartier Ronde Folle watch, a true masterpiece of jewellery featuring a grille and bezel entirely set with brilliant-cut diamonds. Finally, we shall bring this exceptional sale to a close with Kelly bags from the renowned house of Hermès, as well as Madame’s personal jewellery collection.
