Exceptional Louis XIV sideboard Attributed to BEFORT JEUNE XIXè Based on a medallion by André-Charles Boulle. In ebony, richly decorated in gilded brass marquetry with foliage, tendrils and scrolls, opening on the front with two wide leaves adorned with low-relief figures of Socrates and Aspasia. Resting on a plinth with turret feet. Restorations and maintenance, Condition as new. Late 19th century. Dimensions: H: 120; W: 131; D: 49 cm.

Mathieu Befort dit Befort Jeune (1813-1880), cabinetmaker, son of cabinetmaker Jean-Baptiste Befort (died 1840). Established at 1 and 6, rue Neuve-Saint-Gilles in Paris from 1844 to 1880. Like his elder brother Bernard, he specialized in Boulle marquetry and rosewood furniture with rich bronze decoration. His production was always characterized by high quality craftsmanship, and he became the official supplier to Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie.
