Damien Deroubaix (born in 1972) - "World Downfall N.Y.C"

Lot 72 - Serigraph numbered 36/40. Signed and dated 2007. Framed under glass. Dimensions with frame: H: 71; W: 101 cm. Damien Deroubaix's (known as Damien) work follows in the footsteps of Berlin Dada artists, notably John Heartfield, whose principles of montage and recomposition of images from the press he adopts. During his years of study in Berlin, he collected advertising and media images from newspapers and then reworked them in his studio. This work was created by the artist in Berlin after a residency in New York. His choice of screen printing is an essential advantage for the expression of his work, because unlike engraving—where the gouge marks in the wood are clearly visible—screen printing allows the drawn character of the line to appear more clearly. It thus creates a direct link with his work as a draftsman, where the line, freer and more immediate, occupies an essential place.
