Princess Fahr-el born Zeid of Iraq (a member of the Hashemite royal family of Iraq) was one of the first women to study painting in the traditional workshops of the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts (Guzel Sanatlar Akademis).
In Paris, she received the advice of Bissière, who encouraged her to draw from the depths of the signs and colourful enchantments of the Middle Eastern Arts of Byzantine painting to which she combined the abstract precepts of the Nouvelles Ecoles de Paris. The critic Charles Etienne referred to her as "the Virgilian Don who allowed Dante to explore all the worlds".
At the end of her life, she moved to Amman, Jordan where she established the Fahrelnissa Zeid Institute of Fine Arts.
