Ben Carter English artist, living in Luxembourg... - Lot 12 - Lux-Auction
Ben Carter English artist, living in Luxembourg since 2004 bencarter.lu Steel sculpture representing the most emblematic monuments of Luxembourg. Work signed Dimensions : H : 22 ; W : 11, D : 11 cm Trained in illustration and graphic design in London, my artistic approach is constantly evolving. I develop new techniques by letting ideas flow from one visual language medium to another: going back and forth from painting to sculpture, while remaining playful and experimental, pushing the limits to get out of my comfort zone. Much of my early work focused on the ever-changing horizon of Luxembourg. There is an inspiring visual juxtaposition between the historic and the new, particularly between wonderful, mature, century-old fortifications and today's dazzling new institutional and business district. My goal is to depict this skyline in an innovative way that captures its dynamics, contrasts, and vibrancy - a city that is optimistic, proud of its past, and excited about its future... most recently, I have returned to a passion for the natural environment. . COVID-19 has reminded us of the fragility of our life on Earth. It poses a serious public health problem that can soon be brought under control. The same cannot be said for the increasing environmental degradation that threatens the very existence of life on Earth as we know it. I believe that increased environmental awareness must precede meaningful action. Working with a variety of materials and media, I explore how art can be used to communicate environmental issues, especially to youth, but also to society at large. Although climate change is at the center of the challenges we face, the issues are multiple, and my goal is to explore all of the major ones through visual art: to name a few; biodiversity loss; marine pollution; overexploitation of resources and waste management; and deforestation.
