Selected Works of Art & Luxemburgensia Succession de Mde B & à divers

Lux Auction is pleased to offer a fine selection of paintings by Luxembourg and French artists, antique furniture, 19th-century sculptures and vintage watches.

To begin with, this Luxembourg estate will feature the country's most renowned artists: Thilmany, Roger Gerson, Sosthène Weis, Auguste Trémont, Nico Klopp, Kirscht, Gast Michel, Robert Brandy and Théo Kerg.

The highlight of the auction is a remarkable sculpture by the famous artist Lucien Wercollier, "L'affranchissement", a preparatory project for the Mondorf-les Bains spa resort in 1958, probably a unique piece by the artist in this size, with no other examples published to date.

Let's move on to the Ukraine with a rare watercolor on paper by Julian Falat (1853-1929), depicting a lovely snowy landscape, signed in the lower right-hand corner.

As for the furniture, the great French centuries will be well represented with an exceptional Corbeille Louis XV sofa - 18th century attributed to Louis Delanois (Received Master on 27/07/1761), a transitional chest of drawers - 18th century with Rosewood and Violetwood marquetry attributed to Nicolas Petit (1732-1791),

We are delighted to present lot 141, an exceptional Neo-Renaissance dining room by the famous cabinetmaker "Henri Auguste Fourdinois" (1830-1907), France, circa 1880, comprising a large multi-part display cabinet, a high sideboard and a table with six matching walnut chairs, carved in the Renaissance style.

The two doors of the display cabinet feature the French royal couple of the Second Empire in Renaissance costume, the Spanish Countess de Teba Eugénie de Montijo and Charles Louis Napoléon III, Emperor of the French from 1851 to 1870.

Maison Fourdinois was founded in 1835 by Alexandre-Georges Fourdinois (1799-1871). The Universal Exhibition in London in 1851 was undoubtedly their first great artistic and public success. Winning the Grand Medal for a neo-Renaissance sideboard sparked off competition among other cabinetmakers, as the press was unanimous in hailing their success. His son Henri-Auguste (1830-1907), who had been trained in drawing by the architect Duban and the London silversmith Morel, before working with the bronzemaker Paillard, went into partnership with him in 1860. His skills as a draughtsman were recognized at the 1862 Universal Exhibition in London, where the jury awarded him two medals for "Excellence in Composition and Execution". In addition to commissions for the Mobilier de la Couronne, he also produced high-quality furniture for the Parisian haute bourgeoisie. The period 1862-1880 truly marked the apogee of the Fourdinois firm, which remained for many cabinetmakers, whether French, English or American, the example to follow, or even to dethrone.

Finally, lovers of 19th-century animal sculptures will be well served with a halt dog by Georges Gardet, an officer on horseback in gilded bronze, and finally a dog hunting small game by Delabrierre.
